Songbird 1.1.1 Beta 2 Deb Installer

// March 2nd, 2009

tightening-wrench

If you enjoy this .deb installer, please Digg it and help me spread the word.

Monkey-made Debian installer file for the Songbird 1.1.1 Beta 2 release. ;)

Sorry it took so long, no one tells me anything!

Anyway…

Release Notes for Songbird 1.1.1 Beta 2 include:

  • Watch Folders
You can choose to watch a folder hierarchy for changes and the content will auto-magically be imported in your library. If a file is removed from the watched folder, the corresponding track will be deleted from your Library.
  • Better Sorting
Library sorting supports unicode collation and better handling of leading definite and indefinite articles such as “The” and “a”.
  • Replay gain support (normalization)
If a track’s metadata contains replay gain (including iTunes-specific) information, Songbird will adjust the playback gain appropriately.
  • MP3 Store (Beta)
We’ve partnered with 7digital to bring you the highest quality MP3s (320kbps). You can easily search, purchase, organize and get recommendations directly into Songbird. The UK store is fully stocked, but the US and other European stores are still continuing to populate a complete catalog of music. We’re still working out the kinks for this Beta 2 release, so if you find an issue, please let us know.

Just as before, the Songbird icon will be placed in your Applications menu under Sound & Video.

If you installed either of my last .deb packages for Songbird, uninstall them by opening Synaptic or Adept, clicking search, and typing in “songbird”, then check mark for removal, and apply changes.

Feedback and comments appreciated….No, really, I’m serious, leave a comment. :P

    unfortunately it’s 32bit =(

despite that, it seems to sort of work on 64bit, with an error message at the start…

if you can’t live without certain addons, don’t upgrade yet without making a backup of your Songbird config folder; I think the new beta performs a schema update of some sort, making your library config data incompatible with the previous version, so you can’t go back

thanks for the .deb; however I’m using the official .tar.gz =(

also for those who wish to upgrade due to the infamous “songbird on linux can’t play m4a files” problem, installing this deb will not fix the issue

I could make a 64-Bit .Deb if the demand was there, but so far no one has really come forward in asking for a 64-Bit version except for the Songbird 1.0 Final Release.
