Songbird 1.4.1 Installer

As promised, here are the Songbird 1.4.1 installers.

Songbird 1.4.1’s main focus has been on adding new device support, CD rip support, and a new Feather/skin. We’ve included more format/codec support out of the box, improved the media management user experience, and continue to work on performance, footprint, and stability. We continue to listen to your feedback on Get Satisfaction, Bugzilla, and of course right here on our blog. Please let us know what’s important to you.

You can either remove the old installation and do a fresh install or upgrade the existing one. Please leave feedback on your experience. :)

    Thanks for compiling them, it would seem as though the official getsongbird source is down for 32bit Linux users attempting to download it.

    Hi, I really appreciate that you made songbird deb packages for us!!

    You know, the font hinting problem still occur on linux platform.

    Would you please recompile with this “–use-system-cairo” option? This can fix the issue.

    Thank you so much for the quick packaging! The 64-bit deb installed seemlessly. I did a sudo apt-get purge of the old songbird.

    Comments/suggestions:
    On the first load I received the following message:
    “Updating Library

    Rebuilding library sorting data…”
    I think that this message could be improved. It is kind of repetitive (updating library AND rebuilding library AND sorting data) and ambiguous — what does “sorting data” mean? Does it mean organizing songs? or all data?

    I needed to remove 26,000 songs.. this took about 30 seconds. It would have been nice for there to be a status bar.

    I don’t see why I can’t do other things when importing music or when getting album artwork. Songbird just shows the progress of those tasks and doesn’t let you do anything.

    I did not expect this to get album art for ALL of my music.. it should state this, and perhaps offer an option to get album artwork for just one song (sure this is possible with the right click, but I don’t think it would hurt to have a menu option as well).

    command line
    I can’t figure out how to map a key to “next track” “play” “pause” etc. I think that songbird for linux should come natively with some command line options.

    Hmm nope sorry, no RPM installer. I only build for Debian-based systems because I run Ubuntu.

    It is not installing for me on Ubuntu 9.04. Back in 9.10, it just wouldn’t work when I turned on my computer one day. I spent the entire day trying to get it to work, but to no avail.     I have switched to Rhythmbox, and it is very nice, although I miss some of Songbird’s add-ons (Mediaflow, specifically), although I do not miss Songbird’s slow speed. Rhytmbox is fast!

    Joseph Schwenker: Those errors appear to show a problem with your gstreamer installation. Perhaps reinstalling would remedy the problem.

    Marc: I’m very busy with schoolwork at the moment, but I’ll do my best to get it up in a decent amount of time.

    To update 1.4.1 to 1.4.3, simply go to Help > Check for Updates in the Songbird menus to trigger an update; this will download 1.4.3 automatically.
