The nice folks over at Digiarty Software were kind enough to give me a license key to evaluate the latest version of their WinX DVD Ripper Platinum software.

WinX DVD Ripper Platinum can rip the content of DVDs to all popular video formats such as AVI, MOV, FLV, WMV, MPEG, MP4, 3GP, etc. What’s more, it also owns the ability of ripping different DVDs (including encrypted DVDs) to Sony PSP, Apple iPhone, iPod, iTouch, Apple TV, Zune, Mobile phone, etc.

The idea behind this software is to enable you to transfer your DVDs to an electronic format to be played on other devices. I loaded up one of my favorite movies, Law Abiding Citizen, to test it out.

Upon starting up the program you’re greeted with a user-friendly, well-laid out interface; It includes options to convert your DVD to AVI, MP4, MPEG, WMV, FLV, MOV, etc., and even allows you to make a perfect 1:1 copy of the DVD in 5 minutes.

To begin, just insert the DVD you wish to copy/convert into your drive and the interface will take you to the selection box to choose what part of the DVD you want to copy. You will be allowed to select the Audio Language, Subtitle Language, and the Output Folder; You will also need to select the file format that you wish to rip the DVD to.

After that is done, simply click on the ‘Start’ button and wait for the DVD to be ripped.

The movie I choose to test, Law Abiding Citizen, is 1 hour 48 minutes long and took roughly an hour and a half to rip, which is decent considering the quality of the sound and video; And although the filesize came in at a whopping 1.24 GB, this can be adjusted through the options before ripping, which will limit the size.

Pros:

• Easy to use
• Inexpensive
• Plethora of output options
• Video/Audio quality is superb

Cons:

• Ripping process is slow
• Large output size (But can be adjusted)

Conclusion:

DVD Ripper is a great program for users who want a fast, effective, user-friendly DVD-ripping solution and includes a host of options to accommodate almost any playback device. It’s loaded with useful features and is a bargain at $29.95.
